When You Feel Spiritually Stuck—Start Writing
By BlessedPlansCo
Have you ever felt like your faith is on pause? Like you’re showing up on Sundays, reading a few verses here and there—but deep down, you feel disconnected from God?
If so, you’re not alone.
We all go through spiritually dry seasons—times when God feels distant, our prayers feel flat, and our Bible stays closed more days than not. The good news? If you know how to write then you have a way to turn your thoughts into prayers. Hababkuk 2:2 says, “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Dry ground can still grow new roots. And one of the gentlest ways to break through spiritual stagnation is simple:
Start writing.
Journaling Isn’t Just for Writers
You don’t need perfect grammar, pretty handwriting, or poetic words. You just need a willing heart and a pen.
When we write, something powerful happens:
-
We slow down.
-
We reflect.
-
We give God room to speak.
Writing is a form of worship—a way to process, pray, and listen all at once.
Why Writing Helps When You’re Spiritually Stuck
-
It Brings Clarity to the Chaos
When your mind feels foggy or overwhelmed, journaling helps clear the clutter. What’s really bothering you? What are you afraid to say out loud? Writing creates space for honesty.
-
It Tracks God’s Faithfulness
You may not feel Him now, but as you look back on journal entries, you’ll see patterns of grace. Even in silence, He was moving.
-
It Helps You Stay Engaged with the Word
Try writing out just one verse that speaks to you. Then write what it means, how it makes you feel, or what you need from God in that moment. No pressure. Just presence.
What to Write When You Don’t Know What to Say
-
“God, I don’t feel close to You, but I want to.”
-
“Here’s what I’m afraid of…”
-
“This verse stood out today: ex. John 14:27—why?”
-
“What’s one thing I need to let go of?”
There’s no “right” way to journal. Just write.

Feeling stuck doesn’t mean you’re done.
It might just mean it’s time to sit, breathe, and write your way back into God’s presence.
